Intramural Official I Job Description
Student Wage Rate – Level 2
1. Position Summary
The Intramural Sports Official I is responsible for approximately 6-8 hours a week of
officiating intramural sporting events. They report to the Intramural Sports student supervisor
on duty each evening, who in turn reports to the Coordinator of Recreation Programs.
2. Program Responsibilities
a. Must be CPR certified. Training dates are available once a semester.
b. Responsible for the game control of all officiated Intramural Sports contests.
c. Officiate all Intramural Sports contests with complete honesty and integrity in order to
provide the best possible experience for the participants.
d. Attend required training sessions, meetings, and retreats for student staff.
e. Demonstrate proficiency in understanding intramural sports rules and policies, as well
as the guidelines and rules laid out in the Student Code of Conduct. Ask for further
training or explanation if necessary.
f. Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled shifts.
g. Assist with preparation and safety inspection of equipment of the game site.
h. Provide a friendly and customer service-oriented environment at all times
i. Enforce and evaluate sportsmanship of intramural teams and participants and have the
ability to manage conflict if it arises.
j. Manage on-site disputes involving player conflict and rule interpretation.
k. Ensure all equipment is returned to the closet/shed, discard any trash from the venue,
and guarantee the playing surface is returned to its original condition.
l. Assist in providing outreach to Rider University students, program promotion, and
policy education to participants.
3. Communication Responsibilities
a. Ability to work closely with other officials and supervisors during shifts.
b. Communicate with officials about discrepancies between calls during the game.
c. Communicate with the Coordinator of Recreation Programs via email regarding shift
changes and attendance at required staff training or meetings.
d. Check email regularly for messages regarding schedules, meetings, etc.
